James Harden Is Arizona State Basketball Guard

James has decided to leave Arizona State for the 2009 NBA Draft. With the announcement, the sophomore player has ended all speculations of returning to the Sun Devils for another season.

“I felt I’m ready for it as far as taking my game to the next level,” he said at a news conference Wednesday. “It’s a dream come true. It’s my dream since I put a ball in my hand, so why not take the opportunity?”

Harden was the force behind Arizona’s refreshing performance in the last season which saw the team winning 20 consecutive matches and entering into the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

“People thought it was going to be an easy decision — ‘Well, I’m leaving,'” he said, “but it wasn’t the case because I have great teammates here, great coaches. Everything about this program made it hard to leave.”




As a biography, James Harden was born on August 26, 1989 in Los Angeles so his age is 19. He attended Artesia High School and currently stands at 6’5″. He led his school to the California title and a 33-1 record. He was named McDonald’s All-American and was also a star performer in the Amateur Athletic Union.

Harden was named to the confrence all-freshman and first team all-Pac-10 in his freshman year. He was recommended for the Wooden Award preseason watch list and appeared on the cover of the Sports Illustrated college preview issue. After the 2008-09 season, James was awarded the Pacific-10 Conference’s Player of the Year.

He is seen to be a lottery pick in the 2009 NBA Draft and will be one of the top 5 picks in the first round, according to various draft experts.
