Meet Amalia Tabata Pereira, the wife of Pittsburgh Pirate prospect Jose Tabata. She is a suspect in a baby kidnapping in Plant City, Florida. Read the rest of the story below.
Amalia Tabata Pereira, who is 43 years old, married Jose Tabata, 20, in January 2008. Tabata is a top outfielder prospect for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates currently train in Bradenton, Florida.
At 3:00 PM Monday afternoon, 2-month-old Sandra Cruz-Francisco was removed from her mother, Rosa Sirilo-Francisco, by a woman named “Janet”. Sirilo-Francisco had taken Sandra to the Plant City Health Department for a checkup. “Janet” claimed that she was an immigration official and that officers were already at Sirilo-Francisco’s home to deport her and baby Sandra’s father back to Mexico. “Janet” claimed she could help. They both took the baby to the farm where the baby’s father worked, where Rosa explained to him what was going on. “Janet” then took baby Sandra.
It is believed that “Janet” and Amalia Tabata Pereira are one in the same. It has been learned that Tabata Pereira has several aliases that she goes by and has a criminal record. It is unclear how baby Sandra was found.
Tabata Pereira surrendered to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office earlier this afternoon.
A rep from the Pirates organization stated:
“We have no indication that Jose is believed to have had any involvement in this matter.”
