Anucha Browne Sanders is in the news as she has filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against New York Knicks GM Isiah Thomas and Madison Square Garden. Sanders is claiming that Thomas sexually harassed her. When MSG was informed of Sanders’ complaint, they fired her while they investigated the claim. MSG later said that they fired Sanders because of “an inability to fulfill professional responsibilities”. Jury selection began today in the $10 million dollar sexual harassment lawsuit. As a biography, Anucha Browne Sanders entered Northwestern University in 1982. She played on the women’s basketball team and was a superstar player. Three times she would be an all Big Ten team member, twice Big Ten player of the year and is the leading scorer and rebounder in conference history among women basketball players.
Anucha would graduate from Northwestern in 1985 with a degree in communications and inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame in 1993. She received her Master’s Degree in Marketing Communication at Florida State University.
She tried for a career in the WNBA and applied for the draft, but she wasn’t successful as she was not selected.
Sanders worked for IBM for 11 years as a Program Manager in the Worldwide Sports Office. She oversaw IBM’s marketing sports related activities, which included the Olympic Games.
She was hired in 2000 by the New York Knicks as a marketing executive and was promoted in 2002 as Senior Vice President of Marketing and Business Operations until January 2006, when she was fired by the Knicks.
