He is a sophomore at the University of Illinois and a basketball player and he is variously known as Jeffrey Jordan. The talented young point guard has been awarded a full scholarship. As for Jeff Jordan’s stats, he has been averaging 10 minutes a game off the bench and scoring on average, just over a point a game, and is becoming key to the team’s defense.
He is in the news now that he is playing in his first NCAA tournament game. In a recent interview, Jeff Jordan talked about seeing the video of his father’s big shot for North Carolina in the 1982 national championship game and has contemplated his father’s athleticism and coolness under pressure to make the shot.
‘Oh, yeah,” he said. ”I’ve got tapes of the game, of a lot of his college games.’
His father, of course, went on to become an NBA MVP for Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards and one of the greatest players in the history of the sport, as well as a hugely successful and influential entrepreneur and businessman.
Yes, Jeff Jordan is Michael Jordan son, through and through, with a vertical leap of 44 inches when he arrived at Illinois and now 48 inches. According to Coach Bruce Weber, it’s the highest vertical leap of any player on the team.
In an interview, Jordan said that the vertical leap is all that his game shares in common with his father and that he rarely played basketball with his father when he was growing up.
“And he’s taught me a lot of stuff mentally in the game,” Jordan said. “I like to say I’m developing into being as smart as he was.”
“A couple of times I doubted myself but that’s where Mom came in,” he said. “I went to her if I doubted that I wanted to play. She said as long as you’re having fun you should keep doing it and be yourself while you’re doing it.”
As a biography, Jeff Jordan was born on November 18, 1988 so his age is 20. His height is 6’1′ tall (making him five inches sorter than his father) and his weight is 185 pounds. His birth name is Jeffrey Michael Jordan and he is also known as Jeffrey Jordan. His mother is Juanita Vanoy whom his father divorced in 2006. His younger brother Marcus Jordan is also a basketball player. He also has a sister, Jasmine Jordan.
He played high school basketball for Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Illinois, As a sophomore at the school, he also played football. He graduated from the school in 2007 and had scholarship offers from Valparaiso and Loyola University Chicago. Davidson, Penn State, Northwestern, and University of Illinois all actively recruited him as a preferred walk-on. He chose to enroll at the University of Illinois in 2007 with an academic scholarship and a major in psychology.
As a freshman, Jeff Jordan average five minutes per game off the bench. He is now a sophomore at the University of Illinois and as of January 2009, the recipient of a full scholarship.
He wears the No. 13 in honor of his mother’s birthday, rather than his father’s famous No. 23. However in honor of his father his has a tattoo on his left biceps with the Jumpman23 logo and Chicago skyline.
In an interview, Jeff Jordan discussed the contrast between life in the spotlight, his unavoidable experience as Michael Jordan’s son, and his appreciation for normalcy.
“I always wanted to be that way, to be normal,” Jordan said. “I didn’t want to stick out in high school, so when all the national attention came, I wasn’t ready for it. But once the guys treat you normal, that’s the best treatment you can get.”
