Here is a full recap of the season — a literal ‘crash course’ if you have missed DWTS season 8!
When the season began we had three celebrity athletes, now all but one of them has just been sent home. Last week, the longtime viewer favorite rodeo champion Ty Murray and professional dancer Chelsie Hightower were sent home as their total scores were 48 out of 60. Previously sent home was NFL Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor, known as LT and his professional partner, Edyta Sliwinska.
In fact, the most surprising elimination of the season thus far, pitted Ty Murray against Grammy Award winning rapper Lil’ Kim and it was the latter sent home, along with and professional partner Derek Hough. They were narrowly defeated by audience voting which went in favor of Ty Murray and his professional dance partner Chelsie Hightower.
Lil’ Kim’s departure followed that of country music singer Chuck Wicks, comedians Steve-O and David Alan Grier, Apple co-founder, Steve Wozniak (The Woz), and former Playboy model and Girls Next Door star Holly Madison. Other contestants sent home include Belinda Carlisle, former Go-Go frontwoman and actress Denise Richards.
The season’s frontrunner, the French born actor and model Gilles Marini (‘Sex and the City’) became the first contestant this season to achieve a perfect score and last week he and partner Cheryl Burke earned two perfect scores of 30 for a total score of 60 out of 60.
Shawn Johnson and professional partner Mark Ballas placed second with 56 points out of 60. As an Olympic gold medalist she is no stranger to fierce competition and still has a shot at winning.
Melissa Rycroft (‘The Bachelor’) and Tony Dovolani, are now in third place with 56 points out of 60 after Rycroft made a remarkable comeback from a fractured rib which left her unable to compete on the show.
Suspense grows as the season comes to and end. Don’t miss out on the excitement. Join us at 8 p.m. ET on Monday May 18 for performance night and Tuesday May 19 at 9 p.m. for the DWTS season finale!
