Roger Federer’s girlfriend Mirka Vavrinec is pregnant with their first child, Federer announced on his website today. He says that he’s very happy and is looking forward to start his family.
“Mirka and I are excited to let you know that we will be parents this summer!” Federer wrote on his blog. “Mirka is pregnant and we are so happy to be starting a family together. This is a dream come true for us. We love children and we are looking forward to being parents for the first time. Mirka is feeling great and everything is going well.”
Mirka and Federer met during the trials for the Swiss tennis team for the 2000 Sydney Olympics and immediately hit it off. They have been dating each other since then and Mirka now handles Roger’s press requests and travels with him during his tournaments.
Meanwhile, Federer put a stop to all the rumours of Australian Darren Cahill being his new coach. He recently said that although the two held talks for a possible deal, but it didn’t get through. Cahill is a celebrated coach in the tennis community, having coached Leyton Hewitt and Andre Agassi to success.
“We had a good time together, we worked hard, we talked a lot together, but decided not to go ahead,” Federer told a media conference.
Roger is currently playing in the BNP Paribas Open in Indiana Wells. He was out of the action for almost six weeks and missed Swiss’ Davis Cup ties and Dubai Open last month.
