Cassel’s transfer comes as a confirmation to the Patriots fans that their first choice quarterback Tom Brady will be ready to play in the regular season after suffering from a knee injury back in October.

“I’m feeling great. I’m feeling really good. Everything is progressing just as I expected,” Brady said at a charity event.

Matt started the games only when Brady wasn’t there and he did just fine with 3,693 yards and 21 touchdowns in 15 starts. He would have to be paid $14.5 million if he’d been kept in New England. The transfer also involved veteran linebacker Mike Vrabel.

“I have a long history with both players,” Chiefs’ manager Scott Pioli said. “Mike and Matt are men that I respect both personally and professionally. I look forward to having them as new members of the Chiefs family.”

Matt Cassel Biography

As a biography, Matt Cassel was born on May 17, 1982 in Northridge, California so his age is 26. He attended Chatsworth High School and was an all-city selection for both football and baseball. He was ranked No. 8 on the ESPN’s Tom Lemming’s Top 100.

He went to University of Southern California and was a roommate of Heisman Trophy winner Carson Palmer. He didn’t have an illustrious college career because of fellow players and was drafted by the Patriots as the 230th overall pick in the 2005 Draft. Cassel didn’t get much action to see in the 2005, 2006 and 2007 season and was seen as just a primary backup for Brady.

Cassel led the team to a 17-0 victory over the Chiefs in the first match of the 2008 season. He started his first game in September 2008 against the New York Jets and was voted AFC Offensive Player of the Week. He also led the Patriots to a 47–7 win over the Cardinals during their last home game.

In his personal life, Cassel married long-time girlfriend and former USC volleyball player Lauren Killian in February 2007.
