Indian Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar will have his own wax statue to be prepared and kept at the world-famous Madame Tussauds museum in London in April. He now becomes the first Indian sports-person to receive the honour.
“We are delighted to confirm our next Indian superstar is going to be Sachin Tendulkar; his achievements on the cricket pitch are phenomenal and he is one of the biggest names in international sport,” says Liz Edwards, Madame Tussauds PR manager.
Sachin’s wax figure will be placed next to other cricket legends like West Indian Brain Lara and Australian Shane Warne. Other Indian personalities to be portrayed at the museum include Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan.
“The Bollywood stars we have included over the past ten years have proved enormously popular with Asian guests and film fans from all over the world. We know Sachin will be just as popular for sports fans from home and abroad and are looking forward to introducing the real Sachin to his wax double soon.”
Tendulkar will be seen in an “on the pitch” pose, raising his bat in one hand, a typical pose after scoring a century.
Sachin is the best batsman the world has seen in the history of cricket, as acknowledged by various cricketers both past and present. He is the highest run-scorer in both Tests and One Day cricket matches and has the most number of centuries to his name. He is also one of the most experienced cricketer in the world and is treated no less than God in India.
