Los Angeles Clippers star Zach Randolph was ejected out of a match between the Clippers and the Phoenix Suns when he punched Lou Amundson on his face after the first quarter. See the punch video after the jump.
The audience first thought it might be a struggle for the rebound but later realised what Randolph was up to. He was immediately sent out and might face a multiple-match ban after NBA takes up the matter. Suns won the match 140-100 after leading by as many as 52 points at one time.
“He ran up in my face, I just got him up out of my face,” Randolph said. “He hopped up, got in my face and almost kissed me in my mouth, so I just pushed him out of my face.”
This is what Amundon had to say about the incident:
“Basically, he just threw me down when I was going for a rebound. I was on the floor and could feel him on top of me, kind of like stepping on me — I don’t know what he was trying to do. So I got up, and I was pretty upset about the whole situation, got in his face, then he did what he did.”
Randolph came to Los Angeles from New York Knicks in exchange for Cuttino Mobley in November last year. He led the Knicks with 20.5 points and 12.5 rebounds and was the 2004 NBA’s Most Improved Player during his stint with Portland Blazers.
