Singer Jennifer Hudson sang the National Anthem before the Super Bowl game in front of almost 70,000 football fans in the arena and millions watching on TV, to deliver her first public performance since the tragedy that struck her family in October.
Hudson, looking devoid of any sad emotions, looked at the crowd and took a deep breath before enthralling the stadium with her voice. You can watch the video after the jump.
“This was such an important performance, because it’s the first time everyone has seen Jennifer. But she’s in such a great place, with such great spirits and time can heal her wounds. She’s on fire right now and totally grounded,” said pre-game show producer Rickey Minor.
Former American Idol contestant Faith Hill, who performed the anthem in 2000, sang ‘America the Beautiful‘ before Hudson.
“She is a strong girl, a girl of faith,” Hill said. “I believe to come and perform the national anthem, which is this country’s favorite song, at a time that our country is stepping up and moving forward for future generations — I think it’s just the perfect choice.”
Jennifer is nominated for four Grammy awards this year and will be performing again on the stage during the ceremony to be held later this week.
