Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has been named as the most powerful person in British sport in the latest Times Power 100 list.
“Ferguson’s leverage goes way beyond a Godfatherly presence among his peers. If the modern Premier League is a global phenomenon — and it is the most watched and wealthy sporting franchise on the planet — then Ferguson is its founding father.”
“It was he who built the modern megaclub that is Manchester United, the giant flagship of the Premier League enterprise.”
Chairman of the organizing committee of London 2012 Olympics Lord Sebastian Coe came second and Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour came on the third spot. Rounding off the top five are Sky TV chief executive Jeremy Darroch and British Cycling performance director Dave Brailsford.
Ferguson is the most successful soccer club manager in the history of the Premiership League. He has been calling the shots for Manchester United since 1986.
