The Yankees fans are welcoming their new first baseman Mark Teixeira in the big town. Little do they know that the person who was really behind the historical signing is not an agent or manager, but a woman named Leigh Teixeira, Mark’s wife.
Marc told the real story of his inclination towards the Yankees to the reporters in a press conference at the official unveiling of his pinstriped jersey and the sealing of the contract.
After weeks of discussions about Mark’s options, and him asking Leigh, “Where do you want to go? Where do you want me to play?” she told him during a “date night” at the Vaquero Club in Westlake, TX, on December 12, “I want you to be happy. I just want you to be happy.” finally saying, “I want you to be a Yankee,” and it was a done deal.
Teixeira certainly looked like a happy man after the decision he took on his wife’s advice to join the New Yorkers for a $180 million deal surpassing eight years. The No. 25 jersey was presented to him at the Sony Diamond Club at the old stadium. The Yankees will be moving to a much bigger $1.3 billion ballpark very soon.
Leigh and Mark met each other while studying in Georgia Tech. The couple has two children, Jack and Addison Leigh.
