The crowds came out to see Anna Kournikova play yesterday in an exhibition match at the Rogers Cup. (See more pictures of her below) She played doubles with Carling Bassett, John McEnroe and Jim Courier. Obviously, all eyes were on Anna. Retirement from competition in the tennis world hasn’t slowed the girl down. She has done numerous endorsements and commercials and is in the midst of expanding into other ventures. She will be launching her new workout DVD “Basic Elements” on September 25th, and has also signed on with K-swiss to develop a sports clothing line, which is scheduled to be released at the beginning of 2008. Oh, and her boyfriend Enrique Iglesias? She said, “We’re together…and we’re great”.
She acknowledged that exhibition play is the only tennis fix that she gets, but is not complaining:
“It’s a great opportunity for me to be back on the court, in front of fans, and feel the atmosphere. For me, this is the only way. Tennis gave me everything, tennis gave me a life. I wouldn’t be the person that I am – I can’t even imagine. I would probably be cleaning toilets somewhere in Russia.”
Anna was asked by reporters at the Rogers Cup news conference if she has any plans in following the footsteps of fellow tennis player Mark Philippoussis, who most recently starred in the dating show, “Age of Love”:
“No, I wouldn’t be interested in doing it, and, yes I have been approached a lot of times. I think for a guy it’s okay to be kissing ten girls at the same time, but I don’t think it’s good for a girl, is it (laughing)?”
