Mariusz is in the news as the World’s Strongest Man competition 2008 made its TV debut on Christmas night on ESPN2. Shown in 10 half-hour events and a one-hour final thereafter, WSM runner-up was Derek Poundstone of Waterbury, Conn.
As a biography, Mariusz Pudzianowski was born on February 7, 1977 in Biała Rawska, Poland so his age is 31. Known by the names of Pudzian and Dominator, he started out in the field at the age of 13 when he got inspired from an incident.
“I met a kid, he was 12 years old,” he said in an interview. “I could not lift him, then he tried to, and he lifted me up 6 inches in the air. He was strong. This motivated me to work out and become the world’s strongest man.”
Pudzianowski, who weighs 310 pounds, entered his first Strongman competition in 1999. He got his first success at the international level when he came fourth in WSM 2000. He won the title for the first time in 2002 and then the second time the following year, also winning Strongman Super Series World Champion in 2004. After a year of ban, Mariusz returned to the arena to again win the title in 2005. He won the competition in 2007 and 2008 to make the record.
The Polish strongman is also a martial artist and was a professional boxer for seven years before jumping into the strength events.
