Meet Derrick Ward, an American professional football player who is a running back for the New York Giants of the NFL. See photos, video and a biography of Ward here.
Ward performed his career-best 215 yards, along with fellow running back Brandon Jacobs, to help secure the New York Giants a much-needed 34-28 win over the Carolina Panthers. The win ended the two-game losing streak for the current Super Bowl champions.
“The last two weeks we’ve been pretty disgraceful as far as running the ball. We knew that we could run the football and we got back to that tonight and the results are on the scoreboard.”
“My teammates looked at me and they wanted me to get it done,” Ward said. “I looked into every one of my offensive linemen’s eyes and they had my back.”
As a biography, Derrick Ward was born on August 30, 1980 in Los Angeles, California so his age is 28. He attended Valley View High School and was a Team MVP in his senior year, apart from being named as the Sun Belt League Offensive MVP.
Ward was initially drafted by the New York Jets in the seventh round of the 2004 NFL Draft. He had earlier played college football at Fresno State University. Though, he never played a single game for the Jets, he was signed-up by the Giants the same year from the practice squad. With a good 2007 season, including 125 touches, he now seems to have come out of the closet to be in the A-League.
Ward is the ‘Wind’ in the trio of running backs, named “Earth, Wind, & Fire”. He had his Super Bowl moment by earning a ring in Super Bowl XLII.
