Davone Bess is in the news as he was instrumental in the Dolphins’ 91 yard drive to give Miami a 7-6 lead against the St. Louis Rams in the second quarter. Miami was hit with a 15 yard facemask penalty, but Bess caught a 19 yard pass to land them on the Rams’ 6. This opened the door for Ronnie Brown, who ran 3 yards for the touchdown.
As a biography, Davone Bess was born on September 13, 1985 in Oakland, California, so his age is 23. He stands 5 ft 10 inches tall and weighs 190 pounds. He attended Skyline High School in Oakland, California, where he lettered in three sports – basketball, baseball and football. He graduated in 2003.
He was set to attend Oregon State on a scholarship, but after being sentenced to 15 months in a juvenile facility for letting a friend put stolen items in his car, the scholarship was revoked. While in juvenile, he played on a flag football team and was noticed by a recruiter for the University of Hawaii. He was offered a four year scholarship to play for their team.
Bess joined the University of Hawaii team in 2005 and was the starting wide receiver. His freshman year saw him catch 90 passes for a total of 1,124 yards and scored 14 touchdowns. His sophomore year, he caught 96 passes/1220 yards and had 15 touchdowns. As a junior, he caught 108 passes – 1266 yards and scored 12 touchdowns.
He was signed on as an undrafted free agent with the Miami Dolphins in 2008. He scored his first NFL touchdown against the Baltimore Ravens on October 19, 2008.
