Former Oakland Raiders coach Lane Kiffin has been named the new Tennessee Volunteers head coach, replacing long time coach Phillip Fulmer, after he was ousted earlier this month. The Vols have a record of 4-7 this season with Fulmer at the helm.

The announcement of Lane Kiffin as the new Tennessee Vols coach is expected next week, because apparently the deal is not completely finalized. No details of Kiffin’s contract with the Vols have been released.

Kiffin was named the Oakland Raiders head coach in January 2007, and at 31 years of age, he became the youngest head coach in NFL history. Raiders owner Al Davis fired Kiffin on September 30th for “insubordination”. The Raiders had a 5-15 record under Kiffin.

Prior to his stint with the Raiders, he was the assistant coach at USC under Pete Carroll.
