Sergio Garcia Disqualified From PGA Championship Over Scorecard Snafu

August 11, 2007

Sergio Garcia was disqualified from the PGA Championship because he signed an incorrect scorecard. He had a four over par third round, which would have put him to nine over for the tourney. Garcia scored a 5 at the 17th hole, but his playing partner, Boo Weekley, wrote down a 4.

“I wrote the wrong score in,” Weekly said. “I tried to call him back but he had taken off. It’s my fault for putting in the wrong score but his fault for not checking. I had him down for a four, but he made a five. I said to him what I’d done and he said, ‘That just puts the icing on the cake.'”

Sergio left the course and did not speak to reporters. It’s not like he was in the running anyways, with his three day score of 9 over, he would have been tied for 63rd of 72 players, and half the players were still out.
