Cristiano Ronaldo Wants Pay Hike

November 11, 2008

Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo wants a hike in his weekly pay to stay in the team. According to some reports, the hike will escalate his salary to almost $3,40,000 a week!

“Ronaldo is just 18 months into a contract that is supposed to keep him at Old Trafford until 2012, but Mendes insists the star needs further remuneration as a reward for his loyalty.”

Now that’s a sort of pay that you’ll get if you guarantee at least a goal a match! Apart from kidding, Man U is anyways not doing that well in the Premiership League. They lost to Arsenal just three days ago. That’s exactly why team officials have told Ronaldo to ‘prove his loyalty’ before putting any demands on the table.

This deal is seen as the reward that Cristiano is wanting after he declined a move to Real Madrid two months ago and not the ‘loyalty’ issues. Madrid have now said that they will never pursue the striker and instead have signed up Brazilian player Alipio Brandao, who is said to be the ‘new Cristiano Ronaldo’.

The hike will make Ronaldo the most-paid player a week, just ahead of Robinho.

Meanwhile, Barcelona forward Thierry Henry has supported Lionel Messi’s claim to the European Footballer of the year. He said that other contender Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t deserve the award.

“After watching Arsenal against Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo is one thing and Messi is another. There is no comparison. Messi deserves to win the Ballon d’Or this year.”
