Mark Cuban Chicago Cubs deal is not gonna happen. Evidently MLB doesn’t want Cuban to be part of their organization. Read more about the story plus photos and video below.
Mark Cuban Chicago Cubs owner. Nope, that will no longer happen. Reportedly Bud Selig and MLB owners will have nothing to do with it. A source revealed to the Chicago Sun-Times, “There’s no way Bud and the owners are going to let that happen. Zero chance.” MLB has to approve every sale.
Cuban, owner of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks, was one of the five top bidders to purchase the Cubs and Wrigley Field from the current owners, Tribune Co., who purchased the Cubs for $20.5 million back in 1981. Cuban had the highest bid of $1.3 billion. He said back in August:
“The Cubs have got smart, smart people here. I mean they’re winning, they’re doing great things, I’ll just stay out of the way. Believe it or not, I can stay out of the way.”
The Chicago Cubs have been on the market since the beginning of the 2007 season. It’s unlikely that a deal will be finalized before the season starts in 2009. No doubt Sam Zell is not a happy camper and not a peep out of Cuban from his blog…yet.
