Magic Johnson no on Prop 8

Magic Johnson lends his name and voice to the campaign for no on California’s Proposition 8. Read the rest of the story and see photos and video of Magic Johnson below.

Former basketball star and hall of famer Magic Johnson has joined the cause to help keep California’s Proposition 8 from being passed in tomorrow’s election. In a recorded telephone call to California voters, Johnson says:

“This is Magic Johnson calling to ask you to join me and Barack Obama in opposing Proposition 8. Prop 8 singles out one group of Californians to be treated differently – including members of our family, our friends, and our coworkers. That is not what California is about. So this Tuesday, vote no on Proposition 8. It is unfair and wrong. Thanks.”

Johnson is the latest celebrity to lend his name (and voice) to No on Prop 8. Other stars fighting to keep gay marriage legal in California include Steve Young, Samuel L. Jackson, and Ellen DeGeneres. If Prop 8 passes in the election, it would change the California state constitution to eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry by defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman. The California Supreme Court recently recognized the legality of same-sex marriages in the state.

Please check your facts. Steve Young did not take a side on the Proposition 8 issue.
