Biggest Loser trainer Anthony Badalamenti and his live-in girlfriend, Jessica Muniz, were arrested for child abuse against her 6 year old son. They were both charged with second-degree assault, possession of a dangerous weapon and endangering the welfare of a child after beating the 6 year old with weightlifting belts. Badalamenti was held on $100,000 bond or $50,000 cash after his arraignment.
Badalamenti and Muniz were arrested after their landlord, Joe Salerno, called the police. He lives in the apartment below the couple, and said he had been listening to the child’s cries for over a month. He did not do anything, as he felt it was a private matter and did not feel he should intervene. After the events this past Friday, however, Salerno said:
“The child was pleading for mercy. I said, ‘That’s it, I can’t take it anymore.'”
When police arrived on the scene, the couple did not respond to knocks at the door or telephone calls. Police broke down the door and found the boy with multiple injuries, including cuts and bruises on his leg, buttocks, torso and groin area. He was taken to a hospital, where he was treated and later released to a relative.
Attorneys for both Badalamenti and Muniz could not be reached, and family has declined to comment.
This isn’t Badalamenti’s first time making headlines. A former body builder, he was hospitalized back in 2006 with three other men after cooking a toxic concoction using an underground pamphlet on steroids for bodybuilders. While two of his friends were treated for severe burns, he was treated for chemical poisoning. He was featured on last season’s Biggest Loser as a personal trainer, where he helped a police officer lose half his body weight on the show.
