New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress was fined by the NFL after the Giants’ win over San Francisco last Sunday. See video of Plaxico Burress below.
Plaxico Burress was fined $45,000 by the NFL for his actions during and after the Giants 29-17 win over the San Francisco 49ers. After being called for offensive pass interference, Burress shared strong words with both officials and his coach, Tom Coughlin. The argument with officials cost the Giants an additional 15 yards in an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. After the game, Burress continued to criticize officials, stating the call was “the worst he had ever seen.”
He was fined $20,000 for verbally abusing officials during the game, an additional $20,000 for his post-game criticism of the officiating, and $5,000 for throwing a football into the stands.
These fines come after being fined $117,000 by the Giants a few weeks ago. After missing a team meeting without notifying the organization, Burress was suspended for two weeks. While he attributed his absence to a “family emergency,” the team did not understand why the wide out was unavailable by phone when they tried to reach him. (The “family emergency” was taking his son to school. While school is obviously important, I personally don’t consider that an “emergency,” and it definitely makes calling the team to notify them an easy task. But that’s just my opinion.) The two week suspension only resulted in Burress missing one game, however he was fined two weeks pay, approximately $235,000. He was able to reach a settlement with the team, which reduced the fine to $117,000.
Burress, who’s touchdown grab helped lift the Giants to a Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots, has 25 receptions for 341 yards and 3 touchdowns this season.
