Not even sports leagues are immune to today’s economic troubles. NBA commissioner David Stern announced that the league will be cutting its work force by about 9%, or approximately 80 jobs. He said he realizes that sporting events are disposable income, and the NBA is anticipating few season ticket sales, smaller crowds, and less spending at the games. To prepare for this, the NBA is preparing for cost-saving measures.

Stern says:

“We made the decision some months ago that the economy was going to be a bit wobbly so we began a belt-tightening.”

Despite the trouble here at home, the NBA continues to hire abroad, as they still seek to grow internationally.
