Jose Canseco Drug Charges

Former MLB star Jose Canseco was charged in federal court on Tuesday with a drug offense. Photos and video of Jose Canseco below.

Jose Canseco was stopped crossing into California from Mexico. After agents at San Diego’s San Ysidro border crossing searched his car last week, they found human chorionic gonadotropin, which you cannot possess without a prescription.

He was charged with introduction into interstate commerce of a misbranded drug, a misdemeanor offense, in federal court. If found guilty, he faces a maximum of one year in prison and a $1,000 fine. The hearing is scheduled for Nov. 4. Canseco didn’t speak during his hearing, and had no comment after being released.

Human chorionic gonadotropin, or HGC, was banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency for use by men. The fertility drug helps restore testosterone production in men who have previously used steroids, which Canseco admitting to using in 2005. HGC is usually administered to women to cause ovulation and assist with infertility problems.
