Tommy Bowden, head football coach of Clemson has been fired four days after the Tigers lost to Wake Forest. See a photo, video and read more below.
Tommy Bowden informed his assistant coaches of the decision Monday morning. In his place is Wide Receivers Coach Dabo Swinney instead.
Statements from Bowden:
“Terry Don Phillips approached me this morning and we agreed that this is the best solution for the direction of the program,” “I appreciate the opportunity Clemson University gave me and the support of the administration while I was here. I wish Clemson University nothing but the best in the future.”
Things shouldn’t look too bad for Bowden as the buy out fee of his contract are about $ 4,000,000. He had just received a extended contract from Clemson in 2007. The Tigers were Rank 9 in the season before. Everyone thought that they might win their first ACC championship. It was his 10th season as a head coach.
Benched Quarterback Cullen Harper’s view on the situation:
“They just told us. It’s what he deserved,” said senior quarterback Cullen Harper, who was benched after the Tigers’ loss to Wake Forest loss and replaced by highly regarded sophomore Willy Korn. “Dabo Swinney is a fine man and will do an excellent job.”
