Lisa Leslie Is Basketball Star

Meet Lisa Leslie, an American basketball player who was the first woman to perform a dunk in a professional game. She currently plays for the WNBA team Los Angeles Sparks. See photos, video and a biography of Lisa Leslie here.

Lisa recieved a pass from Latasha Byears and then dribbled the ball twice before the dunk. Though her team lost the match to Miami Sols, she shot to fame.

“The hardcore fan will say, ‘We don’t like women’s basketball because they can’t dunk,’ ” her coach Michael Cooper said. “She’s proved that wrong, so now they have to re-evaluate the game. It’s going to make people come out to the arenas to see.”

Lisa Leslie Biography

As a biography, Lisa Leslie was born on July 7, 1972 in Gardena, California so her age is 36. She attended the Morningside High School in Inglewood where she scored 101 points in one game in only the first half. She later attended the University of Southern California.

Lisa, who was the 1990 Gatorade Girls Basketball National Player of the Year, was selected to the All-Pacific Ten Conference team almost four times. She led the WNBA in rebounds in 1996 and 1997.In her presence, Sparks were able to beat Houston Comets in 2001 to win the WNBA title, after the Comets had won all the titles in the 1990s decade. Les;ie also helped her team to win the USA World Championships in 2002, which was her most successful year.

Lisa was a member of the gold-winning USA team in four Olympics from 1996 to 2008. She is also the first player to score 3,000 career points in WNBA.

Apart from basketball, Lisa is a fashion model and an actress. She has modeled for Armani, Tommy Hilfiger and Gigi Hunter. She worked as an expert commentator for ESPN during the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament in 2005. Her other TV appearances include NBA Inside Stuff, Hang Time, Moesha, Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, One on One and The Weakest Link.

In her personal life, Lisa is married to Michael Lockwood, a former Air Force basketball player. The couple has one daughter. She still plays for Sparks and 2008 is her comeback season after a year of pregnancy leave.
