Top European footballers have come together for the first time to launch a children’s cookery book ‘Eat For Goals‘ to inspire obese kids to keep away from from unhealthy foods like burgers and go for healthy vegetables.
The players who contributed to the book with their recipes include English midfielder Steven Gerrard, Barcelona player Thierry Henry and Manchester United forward Ruud Van Nistelrooy. The book has been launched in association with the European Commission and the football body UEFA.
“It shows young players and lovers of football how to cook and eat like champions,” said Steven Gerrard, captain of Liverpool who included his personal favorite aromatic sea bream
The book also gives the nutrition values of the food ingredients apart from the delicious recipes. The book is aimed at the children from the age group of 5 to 11.
“It’s vital that children have a healthy lifestyle based on healthy food and exercise.” said Ruud Van Nistelrooy.
The book was launched at the British School of Brussels by the European Health Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou and President of the World Heart Federation, Professor Pekka Puska.
‘Eat For Goals‘ comes after some researches found out almost that 20% of children are obese and the rate in increasing at an alarming pace. Hopefully, Rangers captain Barry Ferguson’s recipe of fresh fruit salad will address the issue!
A cookery class was also organized at the launch ceremony.
