Josh Howard National Anthem Controversy
Dallas Maverics star Josh Howard is in some hot water for comments he made during the playing of the National Anthem in July. He was participating in Allen Iverson’s celebrity football game and when a cell phone camera panned to Howard during the Anthem, he said:
“The Star-Spangled Banner’ is going on. I don’t celebrate this [expletive]. I’m black.”
Maverics owner Mark Cuban told the Dallas Morning News that the issue was addressed in July:
“I have explained to him that cellphone cameras are not your friend and that what you think you said on camera is never what people will hear when it shows up on YouTube or TV.”
Howard has been the center of controversy this year. He admitted that he used marijuana on occasion, and during the playoffs, he threw himself a birthday party after the Mavs lost Game 4 in their series against New Orleans, even after Coach Avery Johnson told the players that any “extracurricular activities should be kept to a minimum”. In July he was arrested in North Carolina and charged with speeding, reckless driving and drag racing.

People like this should have the opportunity to go play for someone like the Russian Basketball League. Once they have done that living on a tiny fraction of their current overblown salary then I’d like to hear how terrible they think this country is. Go play overseas if it is so bad for you here Howard. Myself, i think the Mavs (and the NBA) would be better off without your marginal talent.

America is simply the most superior and greatest country in the world. If he hates america so much, he should go outside america and live in the sh**hole conditions that all people outside america live. Americans live a life of untold luxury and incredible freedom, while other countries are enslaved and all live in mud shacks. Go back to Africa and live in a mud shack!!! This is AMERICA!

I find it surprising that rather than getting mad at him, Cuban just tells him that “don’t get caught”. Ack.
