Lance Armstrong has won the Tour De France seven times and since has taken a three year retirement.

Lance Armstrong’s goal during this return is definitely winning, but Armstrong also has a much stronger and motivating reason behind his return to the sport he loves so much. During an announcement on September 09, 2008 Artmstrong was quoted as saying:

“I am happy to announce that after talking with my children, my family and my closest friends, I have decided to return to professional cycling in order to raise awareness of the global cancer burden, this year alone, nearly eight million people will die of cancer worldwide. … It’s now time to address cancer on a global level.”

While details about his return and such are still unknown he will discuss his plans more in depth during an appearance on September 24, 2008 at the Clinton Global Initiative in New York.
