Slovenian tennis player Katarina Srebotnik stunned third seed Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia in the second round match of the US Open. She won 3-6 7-6 (7-1) 3-6.
“I didn’t play badly,” said Kuznetsova. “She just played her best game.
“I was fighting and I wanted so much to win that match. She served very well, she came to the net many times, she was more aggressive than I was.
It was the second major casualty in the Open after top seed Ana Ivanovic lost out to 188th ranked Julie Coin of France, just two days back.
Kuznetsova is the 2004 champion and runner-up of last year. Her game was clearly out-powered by the beautiful strokes that the Slovenian player produced.
About Katarina, she has been a junior Wimbledon winner and has been extremely successful in the doubles making to almost four Slam finals and reaching a career high ranking of 3. Her current singles rank is 28. Check out her full biography here.
In other US Open news, second seed Jelena Jankovic had to fight really hard to beat Zheng Jie 7-5,7-5 and veteran player Lindsay Devenport lost out to Marion Bartoli of France.
