Meet Jordyn Wieber. She won the Tyson’s American Cup beating out Bridget Sloan. Jordyn is expected to be one of the USA gymnastics team anchors at the London Olympics in 2012. Read more about her, see photos, and a video below.

Jordyn Wieber, the reigning U.S. Junior Gymnastics Champion, won the Tyson’s American Cup title. She is only 13, so she won’t even be eligible for the world championships until 2011. Also on display was veteran olympian, Bridget Sloan, who came in second.
Jordyn Wieber is the youngest American Cup champion since 1980. Past winners include Olympic gold medalist, Nastia Liukin.
Jordyn Wieber was born on July 12, 1995 so her age is 13. She has three siblings — Lindsay, Ryan, and Kyra — and a dog named Lucy.
Jordyn started her gymnastics career in 1999 at age of 4 and her favorite events are beam and vault. She is coached by John and Kathryn Geddert at Twistars USA.
Jordyn was a member of the 2006-2007 & 2007-2008 USA National Teams. Her goals include to someday become an Olympic Team member and also to compete gymnastics at the College level, possibly Michigan or MSU.
She is the 2008 US Junior National Champion and 2009 American Cup champion, and is expected to be a future star for the United States.
Jordyn attends 8th grade at DeWitt Junior High School and says that Science is her favorite subject. Outside of the gym, she likes to sketch, read, and shop. Her favorite TV show is Grey’s Anatomy and movie is Little Miss Sunshine.
Meet Svetlana Khorkina, a Russian professional gymnast who is said to be one of the most successful and skilled artistic female gymnasts of her time. She has a total of seven Olympic medals to her name and is a deputy at the state of Duma in Russia. See photos, video and a biography of Svetlana Khorkina here.
Svetlana has been quite famous both in and out of the arena. She posed nude for the Russian edition of Playboy in 1997 and her pictures are still one of the best amongst women athletes. She entered politics in 2003 and is a member of United Russia party. She was chosen as a deputy of the Russian state Duma in 2007.
Khorkina is an idol of budding gymnasts all over the world and has an unprecedented 8 original skills named after her in the Code of Points.
As a biography, Svetlana Khorkina was born on January 19, 1979 in Belgorod, Russia so her age is 30. She started into the gymnastics at the age of 11 and won her first international medal at the 1994 World Championships in Brisbane. She later won gold medals at the 1995 European Cup and the World Championships.
Khorkina is considered as a legend in Women’s artistic gymnastics and her style is very expressive and innovative. She was earlier discouraged into participating in the sport because of her height (5′5″) but she created new moves to accommodate her tall figure on the uneven bars. She won the only gold for the Russian women’s gymnastics team at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. She won her first All-Around world title at the 1997 World Championships in Lausanne and retained all European titles.
Khorkina had a controversial relationship with all the three Olympics she participated in. Her 2000 Sydney All-Around title was lost due to technical errors by the officials in setting the height of the bars. And then, in 2004, she alleged that she was the rightful champion as the gold-winning performance of American Carly Patterson was ‘fixed’.
After her career ended at the age of 25, she had seven Olympic and as many as twenty World Championship medals to her name.
She later moved into politics and was named the vice-president of Russian artistic gymnastics federation in 2004. She has aspirations to be an actress and is currently enjoying motherhood after giving birth to a son named Svyatoslav in July 2005 in Los Angeles. She also has an autobiography to her name.
