Mhairi McKay is in the news today as she has a one shot lead in the LPGA Michelob Ultra Open. She had a career best round of an eight under 63, and she is just in front of Annika Sorenstam. She is hoping for a win (which would be her first LPGA Tour victory).

As a biography, Mhairi McKay was born on April 18, 1975 in Glasgow, Scotland. She just turned 33 years old. Mhairi took up golf after she was introduced to the sport by her parents. In her early playing days, Mhairi was the 1987 Under 13 girls’ champion and the 1988 Under 14 champion for the Golf Foundation. She won the Daily Telegraph Junior Golf Championship in 1991. She won the British Girls Championships in 1992 and 1993, and went on to represent Great Britain and Ireland in 1994 and 1996 at the Curtis Cup matches.

Mhairi was offered a golf scholarship at Stanford University in California, making her the first player abroad to have ever been offered a golf scholarship at Stanford. Coincidentally, she was a classmate of golf superstar Tiger Woods. While at Stanford, she was the PAC-10 champ in 1997. She graduated from Stanford in 1997 with a degree in Public Policy.

Mhairi was a rookie on the LPGA Tour in 1998. She had runner-up finishes in 2001, 2002, and 2003. She did win the Australian Open in 2003.

In 2007, she played in 11 tournaments and had one Top 3 and one Top 10 finish. Her earnings for the year were $265,076.

Mhairi has been married to her husband, David Smith, since November 7, 2007. Her hobbies include cooking, painting, soccer, skiing and she is currently working on her pilot’s license.

Meet Inge de Bruijn who is known as the Queen of the Sprint in her sport of swimming. She has brought home Olympic gold four times and is preparing to compete in the Beijing Olympics. Read her biography and see photos and a video of her below.

Inge de Bruijn is an enormously popular Dutch Olympic swimmer. In fact, she is a swimming legend. She has brought home eight Olympic medals including four gold medals as well as numerous other awards. Even though she announced her retirement from swimming in March 2007 she has returned to competing. She will compete in the Beijing Olympics this summer and hopes to bring the Netherlands yet another Olympic gold. You can read about her at her Beijing Olympic webpage.

Yeah, that’s what kind of, we get the idea a little bit yeah, because other people from different countries also try as hard as they can to get a medal or a gold medal in the Olympic Games. And you know, if they can work hard, we can work hard as well.

Inge de Bruijn was born on August 24, 1973 in Barendrecht, Netherlands which is still her home. She began swimming at 7-years-old and won her first medal as a World Champion at 17-years-old in 1991.

Inge was been named ‘Female World Swimmer of the Year’ by Swimming World in 2000 and 2001. She has had an unprecedented long career. She started her international career at the European championships in Rome in 1987 and continues to this day. She did not qualify for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. It is generally felt that she had lost her motivation during that period of time.

When Inge de Bruijn is not swimming, she spends her time doing charity work for children and given generously to children with cancer. She was honored by having a tulip named in her honor.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck, who in just six months after giving birth to her second child, rocked the June cover of Fitness magazine by showing off her bikini clad body. She donned a variety of bikinis for the photoshoot, and sat down with the mag to talk work, baby, and life.

31-year-old Elisabeth worked out big time to prepare for the cover - running daily and training with weights. To get her flat stomach back, she worked on her abs two times a week. She sent thank-you notes to everybody at the gym where she works out, La Palestra, to thank them for helping her get to her post baby body. To her, body image is all about how you feel inside.

“This is the first time I’ve felt free from that, because I am working out in a way where I feel so strong that there’s no room for those doubts. I finally told myself … ‘I’ve got some curves, I’ve got a bubble butt, but I don’t mind, because it’s what powers me forward when I run.”

Fitness Magazine had a nutritionist devise a wheat free plan (she has celiac disease) for Elisabeth to follow and is now eating healthier and has tons of energy. Elisabeth said, “I feel like I’m an athlete again.”

Meet Tiffany Shepherd, the fired bikini mate teacher who has now been offered to do a spread in Playboy. See photos and a biography below.

Tiffany Shepherd to do Playboy?

Tiffany Shepherd was fired from her job as a biology teacher for Port St. Lucie High School due to “excessive absences” but she claims it was because of her second job as a “bikini mate” for Smokin ‘Em Charters. Her story made the headlines last week and photos of the buxom blonde (34DD/E to be exact) were splashed all over the net.

Offers are now pouring in for the 30-year-old teacher, most notably Playboy, as well as inquiries from Maxim, FHM, and Victoria’s Secret. Reps from Playboy are not forthcoming with details, but reportedly they have offered her $25,000 per photo of her nude. According to the Smokin’ Em Charters owner, Kathi Coombes, the photos will be done “very tastefully”. “It’s not going to be spread eagle shots or anything like that.”

Shepherd was still unsure if she would pose nude for Playboy or not.

“I’m not sure yet. I’m, still thinking about it. That’s a really big decision for me considering my children. There’s pros and cons for not doing it and pros and cons for doing it. I’m really thinking about it because I do want to provide for my kids.”

The Olympic Torch has made history today by reaching the summit of Mount Everest! Read more and see photos below.

In spite of the controversy that has surrounded the Olympic Torch relay, especially while it was traveling through western countries, it has reached the top of the world on May 8, 2008, exactly three months before the games will begin. Literally. The trek of the mountaineers carrying the torch to the summit of Mount Everest was broadcast live. The torch as well as the Chinese and Olympic flags were held up for the cameras. The Chinese proclaimed they had lit the torch on top of the world.

The specially made torch was relayed to the summit of the mountain until it was held aloft by a Tibetan woman named Cering Wangmo. The team who transported the Olympic Torch to the summit (largely in secret) was comprised of both Chinese and Tibetans. It was hoped this would help quiet the protests that have plagued the torch relay around the world. The main Olympic Torch has been making its way across China without the protests and controversy that erupted around it in places like Paris, London and San Francisco.

The flame will go through every province of China, finally arriving in Beijing on August 6th, just two days ahead of opening ceremonies.

Vivi (Viviane) Brunieri is in the news today as it has been reported that the former girlfriend of Ronaldo, aka Ronaldinha, is the star of an upcoming porn movie.

The news comes on the heels of the transvestite sex scandal that Ronaldo is currently embroiled in, and the blonde bombshell model, who currently lives in Japan, is said to be coming to Brazil to discuss the details. The title of the porn video is said to be “Vivi Ronaldinha, mi Primera Vez” which translates into “Vivi Ronaldinho My First Time”. The porn video will be available in June.

Not much can be found of Vivi Brunieri online except that we know that she is a former girlfriend of AC Milan soccer player Ronaldo. She did pose for Playboy back in January 1998 with another former girlfriend of Ronaldo, Nádia Franca.

Vivi currently lives in Japan and even attended college there. She speaks fluent Japanese.

On March 15th, Tiffany May stripped down to just her bra, thong, and an American flag and streaked across the field during the USA vs Honduras Olympic qualifying match last March. Even though she didn’t go completely nude when she streaked, you can see her in all her glory over at Playboy.

As a biography, there is scant information on Tiffany May online, although we do know that she hails from Tampa, Florida. She has always been a soccer fan, and was attending the Olympic qualifying match between the US and Honduras when she jaunted across the field. She didn’t go to the game with the intention of streaking, although she has wanted to streak at a game for a long time. Her 15 minutes of fame led to Playboy. Not too shabby. She said:

“Maybe if there were more girls like me streaking at soccer games we’d have a lot more fans.”

Well, if it could land these girls gigs with Playboy, then maybe we’ll see more streakers…

Kate Hollywood is in the news as she was recently chosen to play for the Australian Hockeyroos team at the 2008 Beijing Olympic games this summer. The beautiful 21-year-old is quite appealing marketing wise, according to media buyer Harold Mitchell, who told The Daily Telegraph:

“She’s intelligent and seemingly beyond her years, and the name is glitz and glamour, so there is huge scope for Kate.”

All eyes will be on this Australian blonde bombshell this summer as she and the Hockeyroos try for Olympic gold.

As a biography, Kate Hollywood was born on May 28, 1986. She is 21 years old. Her international debut in hockey came in 2005 and just one year later was part of the gold medal team that won at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. She plays midfield and recently moved from her home in Sydney to Perth in order to train. She is committed to being part of the Hockeyroos squad and is looking forward to having a gold medal placed around her neck in August.

Kate is currently attending Australian College of Physical Education so that she may one day become a PE teacher.

Allison Fisher is the winner of the 2008 San Diego Classic. During her professional career she has won over 80 national titles and 11 world titles. Her record of over 50 WPBA titles is unequaled.

Allison Fisher was born on February 24, 1968 in Cheshnut, England. Her website is www.allisonfisher.com.

Allison gained a love for the game when she was just 7-years-old by watching matches on television. By the time Allison was 13-years-old she belonged to a billiards league and she won her first tournament when she was only 15-years-old. She won her first world snooker championship when is was 17-years-old. She turned pro in 1995. She is considered the most dominant woman player of the last decade and some think of all time.

Allison was named female Player of the Year for 2007 by the three major pool publications, Billiards Digest, Pool & Billiard Magazine and InsidePool magazine. She ranked #1 in the Pool & Billiards Fans Top 20 Favorite Players poll for 2007. Billiards Digest named her Player of the Year 11 times over the years from 1996 - 2007.

Among her titles are World Champion, National champion, ESPN Ultimate challenge, Tournament of Champions and the Amway Cup.

The Official Team Canada Olympic Fashion Gear has been unveiled to very mixed reviews and some controversy. Are they Hot or Not? Is it okay that they are being made in China? Check out the photos and video below and let us know what you think.

The Official Team Canada Olympic Fashion Gear was unveiled by the Hudson’s Bay Company in Toronto. the uniforms the Canadian athletes will wear in Beijing are red and white decorated with a combination of Canadian and Chinese symbols. The uniforms are made with an ultra-light material that resists heat to help the athletes stay cool. Its also odor resistant, which I’m sure is something the athletes will appreciate. The uniforms even include a gizmo that is designed to help the athletes with the infamous Beijing smog. It can be worn on the head, around the neck or over the face for protection. The fabrics used are ‘green’, meaning its eco-friendly. Its made with fabrics such as bamboo, cocona and organic cotton.

The number eight is incorporated throughout the fabric for luck.

“Eight is a lucky number for the Chinese people, and a lot of people don’t know that on the eighth day, of the eighth month, in the year 2008, on the eighth hour, in the eighth minute, maybe on the eighth second, the Games begin.”

The designers have taken great care to fuse Canadian and Chinese cultural symbols together for these uniforms and the replicas that are available for the public to purchase.

There has been a lot of discussion about the styles. Some say they look like pajamas. Others love them. Most say they are ‘busy’ and ‘loud’. I think they look like pajamas and are busy and loud. But that’s just me.

One thing I think we can all be sure of, you will be able to find the Canadian athletes in the crowd!

The real controversy over the uniforms is that making them has been out-sourced to China. Yes. Team Canada’s Olympic Uniforms will be made in China. Many of the people and politicians of Canada are not happy about that at all. Many are saying that its completely inappropriate to have official Canadian uniforms made in another country when there are perfectly good Canadian clothing manufactures. The designers think its ‘quite funny’ that the MPs are upset to discover the uniforms are being made abroad and goes on to list the every day items we use that are made in China. I think that’s not the point. The point is that these athletes are representing Canada to the world. Its a matter of national pride.

Taryne is a Junior at the University of Arizona and is majoring in Physiological Sciences. She hopes to be a doctor.

She spends her free time listening to music, reading and other sports in addition to volleyball. She enjoys long walks and riding horses.

Kelly Holmes was the first and still is the only British woman to win double gold medals in the Olympics. She became a national celebrity in 2004 when she won gold at the Athens Olympics in both the 800m and the 1500m. She is only the third woman in history to win gold in both those events. She set a new British record for distance running the 1500m final in 3 minutes and 57.90 seconds.

Dame Kelly Holmes born on April 19, 1970 in Pembury, Kent, United Kingdom. Dame Holmes’ father was a Jamaican car mechanic. Her mother, Pam Norman, was an Englishwoman and 17-years-old when Kelly was born. When Kelly was two her mother married Michael Norris, a painter and decorator and the man that Kelly considers her father. She has four half-siblings.

Kelly Holmes grew up in Hildenborough and attended Hugh Christie Comprehensive School in Tonbridge. She started her athletic training when she was 12-years-old at the Tonbridge Athletics Club. At that time there was no funding for athletes and she gave up her athletic aspirations for a career in the Army. She joined the Army shortly before her 18th birthday and worked her way to the rank of Sergeant. She stayed in the Army until 1997 when increased funding became available and she could become a full time athlete.

In 1998 she was awarded the MBE for her service to the British Army. In 2005, she was anointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire. She was presented with her Damehood in the 2005 New Years honors by the Queen at Buckingham Palace on March 9, 2005.

Since she has retired from athletics, Dame Kelly Holmes spends a great deal of her time working with young girls encouraging them to take up athletics and to be more active. She has started and been actively involved in several initiatives to encourage sports, including her role as National School Sport Champion, Believe to Achieve with Kelly, On Camp with Kelly and more.

The Arizona State cheerleaders will no longer be cheering from the sidelines, as racy photos of them have surfaced online and athletic director Lisa Love has cut the cheer squad completely from the program. See the racy photos and video below.

After racy photos of the Arizona State University cheerleaders surfaced on “The Dirty”, officials at the university were not amused and athletic director Lisa Love has cut the squad from the program completely. Of the 16 member squad, 6 of the cheerleaders are featured in the racy photos. The photos are two years old, and cheerleaders told Phoenix affiliate Fox 10 that cutting the cheer team had “been in the works for a while”. Looks like it was “good timing” on ASU’s part, according to ASU cheerleader Briana Barcelo.

An email sent by Lisa Love to The Dirty stated:

“NO cheer squad next year at ANY football, basketball or other sporting event games. The only form of “cheer squad” that will remain is the megaphones and signs. Which will not be called the cheerleaders, but instead “Sparky’s Crew.”

Okay, so they’re in their bra and panties…are they naked? No. They’re college kids having a good time. ASU doesn’t get that “party school” rep for nothing. I understand you want your cheerleaders to portray that All-American spirit, but please…These racy photos surfacing were just what ASU were waiting for if they’ve been wanting to cut the squad for a while now…

There will be a filly in the 134th Kentucky Derby. Twenty horses have qualified and officially entered for the race and filly Eight Belles is among them. Read her biography and see pictures and a video of her below.

When the Kentucky Derby runs on Saturday there will be a filly in the field. There has been a lot of debate over the past week or two about whether or not Eight Belles would compete against the colts in the Derby. She was finally officially entered into the Kentucky Derby on Wednesday ending the speculation. A filly hasn’t run in the Kentucky Derby since 1999 and only three have ever won the race. The last filly to win the Derby was Winning Colors in 1988.

The decision to enter Eight Belles in the Derby was not taken lightly by her owner and trainer. They have stated that the decision was made after considering her size and strength which make her more able to compete with the colts. They also said that in spite of the talented field of colts they felt that none of them looked to be unbeatable.

She will leave from the No. 5 post and is getting opening odds at 15-1.

Eight Belles is a three-year-old filly sired by multiple Grade-1 winning millionaire Unbridled’s Song. He was the hero of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, Florida Derby and Wood Memorial S. Her pedigree is impressive. She hails from the line of the elite broodmare La Troienne who is the ancestress of numerous top-class performers. Her family tree is full of notable top-performers, multiple Grade 1s and millionaires.

Eight Belles has inherited speed from the speedy female sprinters in her line. She has also shown signs of inheriting sufficient stamina from her sire and broodmare sire to complete the 1 1/8-mile trip of the Kentucky Oaks.

Eight Belles is owned by Fox Hill Farms, Inc. Her trainer is J. Larry Jones and her Jockey is Gabriel Saez.

According to her owner, she was named for a home in Port Clyde, Maine, where famed painter Andrew Wyeth lives in the summer residence built by his father.

UPDATE - 5/3/2008: Eight Belles fell to the ground in the first turn of the track after coming in Second Place in the Kentucky Derby. She ran a MAGNIFICENT RACE!

“When we passed the wire I stood up,” said Saez, a first-time Derby rider. “She started galloping funny. I tried to pull her up. That’s when she went down.”

As she fell to the ground her jockey, Gabriel Saez, jumped off. An equine ambulance came to the track. It was determined that she had broken both front ankles. Sadly, the on-call veterinarian Dr. Larry Bramlage, reports that Eight Belles’ injuries were severe and she could not be saved. She was immediately euthanized while still on the track.
